Hi. I'm trying to think of another description to put here. Any ideas? I'll try again at 420.

I just heard...

...about the female soldiers that died. Isn’t that awful? I wonder how many of them were mothers. It’s such a sad thing that we've gotten very good at stone throwing, but we can’t seem to find a way to avoid the behavior.

We seem to get good at everything else...why can’t we get good at peace? There isn’t one part of our lives that accepts violence as an alternative yet we have so many armies hanging around. I think it’s sad that we can do everything but steer clear of bombs.

If we are going to participate in a war, I think we should do it right, but in general...why can’t we find another way to settle problems? I understand this particular war...I just don’t get the concept in general. If we can’t ruin a place financially, then we aren’t very good at that super-power stuff.

Why don’t we just spray some crap over the poppy fields in Afghanistan? Wouldn’t you rather kill poppies than people? Even the environmentalists can’t complain there...or can they?

We should be able to come up with an alternative to that oil stuff, I’m sure that we could if we tried hard enough. I would think that we would even give up our cars if we had to. But nobody asks us to give things up anymore, they seem to prefer war to any inconvenience for the nation. I don’t think that’s terribly smart.

Japan is already asking it’s people to “never retire” and they are listening. And China is right next to them...becoming stronger all the time. Such well disciplined people, surely they are more of a threat than those crazy Iraqi’s who we fund by driving cars. This war has cost us two hundred billion dollars so far. That’s a lot of money...of course, we're there now and we have to finish the job...I think we all know that. I listen to the reporters talking about how long the war is taking after I specifically remember the President saying that it would be a long and costly war...he said that going in...I remember that, don’t you?

Now I hear people complaining that the war is taking too long and costing too much. Well, that’s what they agreed to when they went to war. That’s exactly what the President said...and everybody thought it was a good idea at the time.

Right or wrong, that’s exactly what happened. I just think that we could have done something with that money to replace whatever “vital interest” we thought Iraq possessed.

I find it odd that we are always “fighting” for the freedom of speech and other such lofty ideals but have you seen the news lately? Every time someone opens their mouth, someone else calls for their resignation.

Why is that? Why does everyone brag about the freedom of speech and then spend so much time trying to shut every body else up? I don’t understand this place. I think it’s the media. I think they are kind of frightening, don’t you? They possess the power to direct our thinking and manipulate our opinions...and they aren’t very responsible about it.

They make stars all by themselves and then list the World’s Most... whatever and we accept it as something real. We try to aspire to these images that really are just images. It reminds me of that screen that the wife watched in Fahrenheit 451. The ones with the pretty pictures and the “cousins”. Actually, if you think about what Bradbury was trying to say in that book, it’s pretty scary all by itself. If you haven’t ever read that book, read it. It isn’t very long and you could easily read it in two days.

We have pretty much made our society a place where one can rarely be 100% honest without offending someone. That entire line of reasoning is so very contrary to what they were referring to when they wrote the Bill of Rights. They specifically wanted a free exchange of ideas and opinions to allow for growth and tolerance.

It sounded like a good idea at the time.

That book is a MUST read for people nowadays, Bradbury describes exactly what is happening now...it's truly an easy read as well, would be well worth the two evenings it would take to read it.

Guy makes Bradburys point, what ever you say WILL offend someone so books are eventually banned. Good book, sci fi, you know.
