Hello!
I just got home from my friend May's house, you may remember her from earlier posts. She is house bound and I am as well, to some extent. I can get up and walk away, she can't. I had to wait for my son to come and pick me up...I loved giving him the directions to her house. I live near highways 41 and Old 41 and he had to turn at the corner of Amberton and Amberton after he past the firehouse on the corner of Corner Road.
I had to wonder if, when they laid the new 41, was there a meeting as to whether or not they would call the new road New 41 or the old one Old 41. And, when they were naming the streets in the subdivision that my friend lives in, were they just plain out of ideas when they decided to name two streets Amberton? When the workers were putting up the street signs, what did they think when they were putting up a corner post that actually said Amberton on both signs?
There's a town here in Georgia that actually had to pass a law that put a stop to naming streets Peachtree. Anyone who's ever been to the Atlanta area knows how totally frustrating it is to find a place located on Peachtree. I don't have a count, but there are Peachtree streets everywhere you go.
My mother was on the County Board when I was a kid and somehow she was the one who got to name the all of the streets in one subdivision. There happened to be 6 streets and she had 6 kids so, somewhere on this planet there's a street named just for me:):):) I hope they didn't put my annoying brother's sign next to mine.
You may have noticed the new thing that I put on this blog...there's a poll question to the left and down a bit. I was actually in the situation that the first question asks. I was surprised to see that so far two people have chosen what would the opposite of what I thought...making me sort of wrong, but I stand firm in my position...if someone tells you to leave their house and that the relationship is over, you should be smart and leave.
But, with other people disagreeing, I must at least give a bit and agree that the guy had a point to some extent. That's not to say that I was WRONG...God forbid...but I will bend a bit in my position.
When I ask questions on that thing, they will most likely be questions that I've been confronted with at some point. I'm curious to see what other people think and since I can't figure out how to put the comment option back on this thing, it's the closest that I can get to hearing other people's opinions unless they email me.
Well, the cops haven't been to my house since early this morning. I sort of miss them and wonder what's wrong. I hope they're all OK. OH! That gives me an idea for another question! When they were here earlier, my son and I just answered their questions...after all, we had nothing to hide. And...I would think that having a missing woman's car in my driveway might very well be probably cause for them to bust down my door and wake my ass up. But, a friend of mine said that I should have learned my lesson by now and refused to speak to them without a search warrant. I must say, my recent experiences certainly support that opinion but I don't usually get all indignent when the cops are asking me questions and they always seem to catch me off guard so I just tell them what they want to know. Anyway, that's the question for the poll that I'll put up after I post this.Coincidentally, before I posted this, I went to check my email and I just found one with this in it:
.....illegal searches. Never, ever consent to a search. Stand firm in you 4th amendment rights. If a cop has probable cause to search you, your vehicle or your home he needs no permission to search. He asks for your permission simply because he has no legal right to search & he hopes he'll get you to asist him in sending you to prison by consenting to a search. If consent to a search of your vehicle you are giving full permission for him to dismantle your car, leave it in an inoperable heap & you sitting by the roadside wondering what to do. When stopped follow these steps:
1. ask why you've been stopped.
2. when asked if you'll consent to a search refuse any & all types of search.
3. if asked to explain why you refuse to be searched explain that the 4th amendment protects you from unreasonable search & seizures & that you are exercising that right.
4. ask if you are free to leave now.
5.stand firm!
follow these steps & stand tall as you do!
Now, I know they didn't ask to search anything and I wouldn't have let them if they had, but since it was related, I just thought that I'd toss it up there.
OK, I think it's time to act like I'm tired and go to bed. It's after 1 AM and I need to get up early. I'll see you later!
Meg
