I've decided to raffle off my car...
...to try to get a few dollars with which to pay my bills/fines. It's taken me a while to figure out how to do this but I think I've come up with a way that would work. I looked at the "details" from the guy who sent me some money through the DONATE button and although there isn't a number on it per se, the time that he sent it is listed. So, I've decided to use the time as the "raffle tickets". The cash isn't what you would call flooding in so I doubt that there would be any two people with the same time. Even if two people did do it at the exact same minute, the site could only take one thing at a time so I could differentiate the times with the seconds if I had to. I'll take a bunch of slips of paper and write the times down and put them all in a bowl and pull one out. You'd probably have to live close to Marietta, Georgia to make it worth your time and effort. The car is a green Dodge Spirit, either a 94 or 95...I can't remember which. You could just come and take it. It doesn't have tags so you'd need a tow truck or friends in the police department to get it out of here. It runs, it just has a problem with the transmission. I don't know anything about cars but I know that this one doesn't have first gear. I asked a mechanic what it would be worth when I first decided to sell it and he said that he wouldn't take less than $800 for it. I have a For Sale sign on it but it's parked in my driveway and you'd basically have to rear end it to see the sign. One man stopped by a few weeks ago and offered me $500 for it but since the mechanic dude said not to take less than $800, I refused.
OK, this is how I'm going to do it. If you want to "buy" a raffle ticket, hit the DONATE button and send me $12.34. That way I'll know that you're interested in the car and not just some nice person sending me a few bucks. Then, next Friday evening, I'll take all of the "tickets" and draw one. When someone sends money, their name is listed up there so I'll know what your name is. Unless you send me an email telling me not to use your name, I'll post the name on Friday evening and you'll know that you have gotten the car. If you don't want your name used, send me an email to megbkelso@gmail.com and give me a fake name to use so that I can somehow put your name/alias up on Friday.
The only thing I ask is that you come and take it that weekend so that I can get it out of the driveway as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the car, just email me and I'll answer them to the best of my ability. If you have any questions that I can't answer myself, I'll do my best to get the answer to your questions by asking a mechanic that I know or just by going out and looking at the car myself. What I do know is that the body is in good condition, it's dirty from sitting there but it cleans up well. I also know that it runs well except for the first gear thing. I was still able to drive it without first gear but I didn't have the money to pay the taxes on it last year so I stopped driving it. Then, when I could have paid the taxes, I wasn't able to drive so I didn't bother with it. It has a rebuilt engine...I know that because I paid a lot of money to have it rebuilt. Like I said, I will answer any specific questions that you might have if you email me.
OK then, now I'm going to go and take the For Sale sign down for the week. If no one wants it, I'll put it back on next Saturday.
See ya,
Meg
