I know I LOOK like a sucker...
...but my email address isn't SUCKERS-R-US. I just found another answer to my short-lived Craigslist ad for a roommate. Luckily, I'm not as stupid as one would think so I'm not going for it, but here it is:
Hello,
Thanks for getting back to me. As regards payment, this is what i am going to do.I have a client in the US who is owing me $6,000 i would instruct him to make out a certified check (preferably money orders)to you in that amount and as soon as it clears your bank. you can now deduct your money from it and send me my balance,i will be using part of the money to pay for the airplane and other expenses.you will send my balance by via western union or money gram.Although the value of the check is more than the asking price but i think i should be able to trust you with my balance as a law abidden citizen and a truthworthty American. you're to deduct the western union or money gram charges from my balance. So if my terms are acceptable to you,i would like you to give me your full name, address and phone number I will instruct my client to make out the check to you immediately. Please get back to me as soon as you can in order for us to round things up in a timely fashion..i will be trusting in this business transaction. Thanks in this regards,Debra
Damn, why does everything that looks too good to be true have to be so rotten?
Just once, couldn't I be lucky enough to hear from someone who really, really wanted to give me $6,000? And, as smart as I am why don't I just try to come up with a scam of my own? Damn my conscience.
One of the people that I met in jail was a scam artist, as far as I know, the first one that I've ever met. She heard me talking about my financial problems and said that if I were get her out of jail when I got out, she would pay me $2,000. Apparently, money wasn't her problem, it was mine. My problem wasn't finding a person who was stable enough to bond me out, it was hers. So, she told me that if I would sign for her and get her bonded out, she would give me two grand within a week.
Then I found out that she had scammed a bunch of people, including a bail bondsman who helped her in the recent past. She gave me a phone number that she said could be used as a "job reference" and that turned out to be the number of her own not for profit business that she uses as part of her scamming operation. She is one helluva bright woman and I can't help but wonder what type of good that she could do for herself and others if she were to take that mind of hers and use it in a decent manner.
I used to care for an old woman who lived alone and she was your typical old lady who was a patsy for every scam artist with a telephone. She received phone calls from some guy who said he was with the Canadian Lottery and they sold her hundreds of dollars of "lottery tickets" every week. She was a bit annoyed that I wouldn't buy some of them myself, after all, "It was such a good deal." She had a house full of stupid little gadgets that she would buy from television ads or one source or another. The poor woman was so lonely that she would be happy to speak to anyone who called, even if that person just wanted her to send them some cash. If I were a person of lesser character, I could have easily taken her for quite a bit myself. If you have an elderly loved one who lives alone, you might want to keep close tabs on them. This lady had a son who lived about 30 miles away and I'm sure that he had no clue what his mother was spending her money on.
Well, I just spoke to my daughter. As a result of her helping me while I was locked up, her father, his lunatic wife and some insane chick somehow involved with them are all accusing my daughter of doing the things that they used to accuse me of. Since they can't get to me, they're taking it out on my lovely daughter. They're accusing her of using drugs and she wouldn't EVER do that. She's a beautiful, responsible, educated woman with a good job and a great future and these whack jobs are doing their best to punish her for helping her mother. Luckily, the rest of my ex in laws know my daughter, AND her step mother so none of them believe any of this trash. But if these nuts are telling the same lies to my probation officer, that woman would be all too happy to believe them and she most certainly wouldn't ever want to hear from my daughter...she would tell her the truth and that woman would much rather hear from the nut jobs whom I haven't seen in years. Hell, even Rick would tell the truth about me but that doesn't fit the profile of what my PO wants to believe so he would be no fun to talk to.
OK, now I have to go see what I can do to take care of some of the probation details. I"ll be back later...wish me luck!
