Hi. I'm trying to think of another description to put here. Any ideas? I'll try again at 420.

One of my dogs...

..is going to be put down today. She fell down the stairs yesterday, which she's done before, but this time was the last. She slept in the room with me and then walked into the kitchen this morning and laid down. She hasn't moved since. I've been feeding her and she loves that...but she can't get up.

She is afraid to go outside now because of the stairs so she peed on the floor today. She hasn't been out for anything else so I don't know what to expect there. I guess I'll just sit next to her and pet her for a while and then take her to the vet's office.

I gave her an ibuprofen this morning and then I gave her a Xanax a little while ago. Her head is on a pillow and she's just lying there. I think all the other animals here realize that something's going on because none of them are annoying me as I pay so much attention to Maggie.

I hate that it's happened while my father is here but what can yo do...I have to take care of this dog. Besides, I thought that my father would be gone by now, I should have known better.

I'll be back in a little while...see ya.

Meg,

I am so sorry. I can say I know how it feels but that won't help make this any easier on you. If you feel that it's "time" and there is nothing that will make her have an extended life worth living then it's all you can do. You are doing the right thing by not putting your own feelings ahead of the dog's welfare.

I'm here if you need me.

Hugs,

Wendy

Meg I have an old cat and she is starting to show signs of pain and arthritic symptoms. I don't want to take her to the vet, but I know I have to. I don't want her to be in any pain, but the thought is so painful I just don't want to deal with it.

My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry to hear this news! My prayers are with you!!

My oldest dog is 11. He's a Corgi, and he's got arthritis in his back. I have absolutely been dreading "that day" for a while now, so I really feel for you.

Thanks ladies. This dog is the one that I found tied to a tree, totally emaciated a year and a half ago. Her bones were sticking out and she had patches of hair missing. She was just in all around awful condition. I took her in, washed her, fed her and took her to the vet who guessed that she was about 9 years old. Since the day I brought her home, I've wondered what her story was, where she came from and who tied her to that tree? It'll always drive me nuts. She was always so well behaved that you would think she was a family pet. I just wanted to know how she ended up hurt and starving, tied to a tree.

Sorry about the Corgi, 11 years is a long time to have a pet and then have them be gone. I'm just glad that I was able to sit there and feed her instead of having her wonder where I was, like my other cat must have felt when my son accidentally killed her. Good luck with your dog, I certainly know how you feel. I've been seeing this day coming for a LONG time.
