Meg...
...I am not so bad that I am worried about depression. But it just feels like there is no fun anymore. NO matter what I try.
You may not be “worried about depression” but what you describe in your email and specifically in this sentence, “But it feels like there is no fun anymore”, is the very essence of depression. Sometimes we get depressed over something situational and that leads to a chemical imbalance in our brains and we become clinically depressed. When that happens, you pretty much need medication to get the balance back.
I took elavil in the 80’s and it worked great for me. The side effect of making me tired took some getting used to, but it worked. The new generations of anti-depressants have caused me all kinds of problems and have never worked for me but they work well for many people.
Don’t ignore these symptoms. It only gets worse. Here is a link to a very quick test that will tell you whether or not you are clinically depressed:

If you take the test and find that you are depressed, please take care of it quickly. There is no reason to go through life depressed when it is so treatable nowadays. This test is the standard when it comes to diagnosing depression...most doctors use it. If your doctor prescribes you something that makes you feel bad, talk to him/her and see what you can do. You can find the right treatment for you and you owe it to yourself to try. Depression can steal years from your life and life from your years. Although you say you don’t really mind the depression, the depression IS the problem and maybe you don’t think it is all that BAD, but you have forgotten how GOOD life can be. Depressed people always say things to the effect of, “Nothing sounds like fun anymore, not even the things I have always enjoyed.”
You said that as well and it is the cardinal sign of depression. Take care of yourself, find out what you are missing out of life. You have forgotten how to have fun, isn't it just as easy to forget how good life can be? You will be amazed to find out that you are depriving yourself of happiness as much as I was by staying with Vex. You and I both deserve more, most people do.
Sadly, too many people don’t get help for depression and then what happens is that they go from not being able to find fun to not being able to find a reason to live. Then they blow their heads off. So, it is like playing with fire to ignore these symptoms, just like it is stupid to stay with an abusive person. Now, it is your turn to be your own best friend and getteth thyself to a doctor. If you wouldn’t mind, let us know how things go for you. Treatment for depression usually begins working within 6 to 8 weeks so you have until the end of June to tell us how well you feel! It could really help someone else who is feeling the same way.
(By the way, I said that a situation can trigger the depression. In your case, it could also have been hormone related, I say that because of your age. I don’t know, perhaps it started as situational or a combination of both things. But, a fireman never asks how the fire started until after he puts it out so take care of yourself soon.)
Good luck,
Meg
