I solved a problem...
...and I'm very pleased with myself. I have a friend who needed a place to stay so I let her stay here. her boyfriend is HUGE and very handy. I took Payton out to see the fireworks last night and left my lights on when I got home. Before I even noticed it, the guy and his friend told me that I needed a jump so they took care of that. If they wouldn't have been here, I don't know what I would have done about a dead battery. I can fix a car on the side of the road, I just stand there looking stupid and someone stops to help. But no one can tell that I need help if the car is in a carport.
Then, the guy fixed my lawnmower because I put the wrong gas in it. Then, he showed me his guns and his concealed carry permit. (He's a soldier dude and a very nice guy. It's nice to see young men acting like men...Lord knows I've married one older than this one who wasn't nearly as much of a man as this guy is.) I don't know when he goes back to Iraq, but I hope it's not for a while. This is so much fun.
I think I really screwed up yesterday. I tried to do yard work, even though I was sitting down for most of it. Last night the pain was worse than it's been since I broke the dumb thing. So, this weekend I have to keep it up because I'm not going to let this screw up my trip to LA. I may just sit on my ass until my flight leaves.
I bet if I would have waited until that guy was here, he would have mowed the entire lawn in 20 minutes. Anyway, I can't do it so I give up. If you drive down Polk Street, look for the yard with a bunch of strips of short grass...that's my house.
Driving is awkward, I keep the right foot across my lap and just drive with my left foot. It's a good thing I have an automatic, I wouldn't be able to clutch and drive. I took Payton around the corner to watch the fireworks and he freaked. We never got out of the car, we just sat there watching the sky. Payton barked at the first 5 or so and then he just watched them. It was pretty cool.
My sister went to Florida, my friend went to the beach and my son is at his girlfriend's. I should be having a very quiet weekend. Then, I should probably start packing Monday because my flight leaves Wednesday. It'll take me two days to pack at the rate I'm moving now. My friend will be watching my animals but I don't expect her to take Payton to McDonald's so I'll buy a bunch of double-cheeseburgers and stick them in the fridge. Maybe she won't mind nuking a couple every night. The people at the drive-thru recognize Payton because we go there so often. Last night the chick in the window said, "Is that the dog who eats plain cheeseburgers?" I told her that it was and she wanted to pet him. I guess I'm spoiling that dog but hell, he's just about the best friend that I have.
Do any of you guys spoil your animals? I even spoil the cats..but not as much. They just get a can of tuna once a week. Payton gets his burgers almost every day. He can't have them unless he eats his dog food first but I feed him twice a day so I don't THINK cheeseburgers for dinner will hurt him. Of course if you eat enough they'll even hurt US so maybe I should cut him back a bit.
He is hard to say "No!" to. He certainly isn't shy when he wants something and when he wants a cheeseburger, he's downright charming. I've had dogs before but they were family dogs. They usually played with brothers or sons. This is the first dog that's ever been MY dog. So, since we spend so much time together, I know him pretty well. I never realized what sensitive animals dogs were.
Payton misses people and other dogs when they leave. He gets all depressed and curls up in a ball in his crate. When I had my other dog put down, Payton was inconsolable. That's when I got him Stewie. It worked, he came out of his funk.
And he's such a smart little guy. He runs after Stewie when Stewie goes to scratch my wingback chair or if he gets too close to the door. I never would have given a dog enough credit to know when another animal was screwing up. And to think, when I first got Payton, people told me that there was no way that I could control a dog that big. I think I've done just fine. Shoes are safe around him and he wouldn't even eat food off of a coffee table. I can leave my dinner there safely and go get ketchup.
If I owned this house, I'd get a puppy and let Payton have a playmate. He would play with the cats, but since cats can be assholes, he doesn't. I'm not much fun for a dog. When my feet work properly I only take him hiking once a week or so. He has so much energy that I'd love for him to have a friend.
LOLOLOL, I just got Payton on the webcam telling me he was hungry. He comes up to me and starts dog-talking and then this is how I figure out what he wants:

OK, I think I'll spend the weekend watching movies and letting my foot heal. I'll pop over here every so often.
As I was typing that last sentence Payton decided that he wanted something else. He barked, put his head on my lap and then I asked him what he wanted. It was tough to tape but I tried:

He is sooo cuute!!! And Stewi looks gorgeous in the background!
Get the puppy!!
By the way, I am also a left foot/left handed driver. I don't know what it is, but I need one of those cars like they have in the UK.
He is a doll, isn't he? Stewie is too. You should see them play together.
I can drive with either foot, I just can't use my right foot at all so I wouldn't be able to drive a car with a clutch. I can handle the brakes and gas with my left foot, but that's it. The right one is staying across my lap most of the time.
