Hi. I'm trying to think of another description to put here. Any ideas? I'll try again at 420.

Meg,

"...This is totally unrelated to your entry. But just a question: how did your friends/family feel about Rick?I'm only asking because my mom made an "offhanded" comment this morning. A part of me is afraid/knows she's right. Do mother's really know best? ALL the time??..."

Well, that depends. Most of my family adored him, especially my mother. My father on the other hand, after meeting Rick was prompted to say, "Didn't I tell you to stay away from men who's last name ends in a vowel? I have to admit, I didn't listen to my father but had I done so at that time, I'd be much better off now.

But, in most cases, mothers are, indeed, right. If you have a nutty mom who always disagrees with everything that you do, then you would know that. But if she is a reasonable woman, you can trust her instincts.

"...You guys call what we call scones biscuits , we have jam and cream with scones LOL not gravy..."

When I went to England, I had scones with jam and LOVED them. They're a bit drier that our biscuits, but they're good all the same. Occasionally I buy scones here when I can find them Since the Brits drink more tea than coffee, they use a french press which doesn't make as MUCH coffee, but it's easy and it makes GOOD coffee! I have one and I love it.

"...The only way I will eat them is if they contain either shrimp and gravy or shrimp and romano cheese..."

OK now. Shrimp? I am totally baffled. On top of my grit confusion, I don't like seafood.

OK, I was thinking a bit more about what my friends and family thought about Rick. They liked him but remember that he was one of those quiet guys who said nothing so there was nothing NOT to like. My other ex was a liar, cheat and violent short dude, but everyone thought he was great. He was one of those nimrods who would say, "Why, how are you today, young lady?" to a woman in her 90's. Ever the salesman.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to people who don't know what's going on deep inside your relationship, but I would give some serious thought to what your mom says.

How long have you been living in the south? You don't like grits OR shrimp? Oh my. What about divinity? or...pecan pralines...or....cornbread (yuck)...or fried chicken and black eyed peas cooked with fatback? or real biscuits (not scones for our European readers) but real biscuits (which probably favor hard tack).

Hey Meg, you don't have to post this but I wanted to give you a scone recipe lol

Try the following

Scones
225g/8oz self raising flour
pinch of salt
55g/2oz butter
25g/1oz caster sugar
150ml/5fl oz milk

Method
1. Heat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
2. Mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter.
3. Stir in the sugar and then the milk to get a soft dough.
4. Turn on to a floured work surface and knead very lightly. Pat out to a round 2cm/¾in thick. Use a 5cm/2in cutter to stamp out rounds and place on a baking sheet. Lightly knead together the rest of the dough and stamp out more scones to use it all up.
5. Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk. Bake for 12-15 minutes until well risen and golden.
6. Cool on a wire rack and serve

For a fruit scone, add 75g/3oz sultanas to the mixture before adding milk.

Its really basic but easy enough

I HAD to post it because someone else might want to try it, they're really quite good. If you can't find caster sugar, you can make your own by grinding some sugar in a food processor.

Anyway, I shall try it and thank you very much for sending it!
